Actuators

Actuators

Our actuators, also called activators, are electrically ignited and trigger a desired reaction. So, for example, a container can be opened or a chemical process triggered. This is used in the security industry and in the healthcare sector. We distinguish between pyromechanical and thermal actuators.

Applications:

  • Opening a CO2 cartridge
A bolt is accelerated by the pyrotechnic ignition and pierces the bottom of a CO2 cartridge, allowing the gas to escape.
    • Application example 1:
A sensor detects an unforeseen movement, e.g. a fall. The system ignites the actuator and a body airbag is inflated within fractions of a second.

    • Application example 2:
If a security container for the transport of valuables is not opened in a proper manner, the ignition takes place and a substance is injected into the container. So, for example, banknotes are permanently marked with ink and rendered worthless.
  • Fire extinguishing systems
The heat generated by a thermal actuator triggers the chemical reaction.
    • Application example:
If a fire is detected in a room, the extinguishing system is activated and the fire is suffocated dry within seconds. For example, a fire can be extinguished in a server cabinet without causing further damage to the hardware. The system is also suitable for large spaces such as a warehouse or onboard ships.
